The district sleeps alone tonight
I feel sort of like I should actually talk about Supernatural. I know, shocking, right? Me? On a blog? Talking? Perish the thought!

But I am all caught up now, so... )

I have something of a hand fetish.
Last night, I had dinner with Sam and Tomio, and after several special text messages (including "which direction do we turn for the sketchy bar"), we all returned to the apartment, where Bevin had spent some time coming up with a game she called "Bevgammon." It was basically Kings, except she came up with new things to do for each card, and points were somehow involved. Bevin appointed the points pretty liberally (she gave points for good things, but also was allowed to take away points for "being a douche"), and Tomio ended up winning from an early lead due to his figuring out how to play Bevgammon with just one deck of cards.

From there, Tomio and Sam headed home while the rest of us turned right and headed for bars which turned out to be not sketchy. Although one guy came up and started asking Chaos and Val questions about themselves. They didn't reply, so he said (and I quote), "Am I the Antichrist?"

How do you respond to that?

We then came home, hung out and chilled, and Val and I finally went to sleep at like five a.m.

Today, we watched Supernatural.

That was honestly it. Val and I rock. I did find a few job leads to apply for (at some point last night I suddenly exclaimed "I should look for jobs at the aquarium!!" and woke up to find I had some tabs open with, well, jobs at the aquarium), and I need to write cover letters tomorrow.

But today, today was all about how Jared Padalecki is hot, freakish giant. Who is hot. (Jensen Ackles, also hot. But not a freakish giant.)

NET.

Um um. Moved in to new apartment! Wires everywhere! Ahaha I need to. Work on this net thing. Y-yeah. BUT NET. In lieu of real content, have a post I wrote up yesterday. WARNING: This is almost entirely me rambling about how much the sequels to Twilight hurt me in my kokoro.

I. I'm so sorry.

---

In my desire to find something to do while I have 1) no net and 2) no job, I've been making some poor decisions.

Two poor decisions.

Supernatural season one. )

New Moon and Eclipse, sequels to Twilight, as I read them. Spoilers for those books, and also Megan Whalen Turner's Eugenides books. )

Her arms outstretched.
I was going to do a post about how much Quina in FF9 annoys me.

But it wasn't really that interesting.

Instead, everyone should tell me where to get Freya/Amarant fic. Because that pairing fucking rocks.

Media whore--talking about books and movies )

Other than books and movies, we also went to the beach a few times! It was cold. So very cold. The first day the three of us were just bundled up in blankets, sitting in the beach house crying. The next day was nicer and we actually went to the beach (shocking!) where Becca and Chaos tried to tan while I made a sandcastle and fought the sea. I think the sea won. I did go all the way into the water on a dare; this is not a good idea. At all. In fact, it is a terrible idea. It was cold and I cried. We drank some and watched season two of The Office. I sent some text messages. We tried to go to the beach again the next day, and the sand attacked us. Like, it blew into our legs and stung and was terrible. I fought some seagulls and won. Fucking seagulls. We then just decided to hang out on the deck and sunbathe there, as then the sand didn't try to kill us. The beaches were nice and deserted those days, but when we returned on Saturday (our last day at the beach) all these impossibly thin, tanned girls with schleppy boyfriends showed up, and we got intimidated and ran away. True story.

We also did some of a puzzle, hung out in Baltimore, and were all dizzy and confused. Overall, it was good times.

Now, I have so far not addressed one book. A book Becca and I both read. A book no one should ever read.

I read Twilight.

Why? Let's break it down.
Morbid curiosity: 28%
Wanting to understand complaints about the movie and/or casting: 2%
Self-loathing: 20%
Wanting to be able to use this icon: 30%
Not wanting to do my final papers: 30%

Yes, I gave this book 110%

Because it's worth it.

In fact that is lies. I gave it about 30%, and that was more than it deserved.

I am watching Greek.

If you HAVE NO SOUL, you should download Lucas Grabeel's cover of the song. If you still don't like it, frankly, I just don't know what to say to you.

The unguessed favorites from that characters meme, mostly because some of the ones who weren't guessed were the ones I wanted to talk about most.

Babylon 5-Lennier. True story, my first Mary Sue was in this fandom and got with Lennier. Don't judge :( I am a sucker for the unrequited love aspect, and that's why for a long time I loved Marcus (also I was twelve and v. v. shallow), but at some point Lennier overtook him. I adore Lennier.

Honey and Clover-Takemoto. See, the thing is. I love a huge number of characters in H&C (NOMIYA AYU MORITA YAAAAY) but. You can't beat Takemoto for me. Especially first season Takemoto. He's just so...sweet and nice and normal, and I always, without exception, love his voiceovers, which I don't think has ever happened to me with any other character. He's kind of a stealth favorite too--I started writing up my response for why I love Nomiya best, and then halfway through I was like "Oh right, actually, Takemoto."

Phoenix Wright-Maya Fey. What. Adorable sidekick is adorable.

Princess Tutu-Rue. I really love all of the main four in Tutu, but Rue wins out for me because I really love her voice actress in the Japanese. Which is kind of weird, but...I love the job she does with it.

Card Captor Sakura-Meilin. See, the thing is, I've got a type. For anime boys, it's retards who dye their hair (see: Nakatsu, that guy from Ai Shiteruze Baby, Tidus), and for girls, it's the I love you therefore I will yell at you and later have an emotional scene wherein I show weird maturity and give you up (see: Meilin, Kagura). Runner up here is Nakuru, for being Nakuru (and not Nakatsu, as I originally typoed), and Eriol, for being Eriol.

Mature and responsible human being.
ANOTHER MEME WHY NOT stolen from Box even though I have weird American fandoms :(

- post a list of 16 fandoms.
- have your friends list guess your favorite character from each one.
- when guessed, bold the line, include the character name, and write a sentence about why you like that character.

01. Babylon 5
02. Runaways: Chase Guessed by [info]phrenk. I mean. It's Chase. He is retarded and amazing and funny and fucked up. I can't even describe my love of him.
03. DC: Kon-El/Superboy Guessed by [info]gaisce. Well. Clearly.
04. Lord of the Rings: Pippin Guessed by [info]phrenk. I like happy characters who grow up and remain awesome, and Pippin is cute and fun and has an awesome character arc, so yes.
05. Final Fantasy X: Tidus Guessed by [info]laserdragon. Tidus was that annoying whiny kid who I hated, but then by halfway through the game I was grudgingly fond of him and then three-quarters of the way through I realized he was my one true video game boyfriend and amazing. None of these are really reasons, just rambling.
06. Hanakimi: Nakatsu Guessed by [info]gaisce. Hanakimi is actually a pretty hard call for me in terms of favorites, but I'm a sucker for hyperactive boys with unrequited loves. Also, retarded ones. loev nakatsu.
07. Heroes: Ando Guessed by [info]phrenk. Ando and Hiro are both basically my favorites, and their relationship is amazing, but I do love Ando most for being special (except not) and awesome friend while also being terrible friend.
08. Honey and Clover
09. The Office (US): Jim Guessed by [info]othercriteria. See, the thing is, I'm not a huge fan of season four Jim, or even season three Jim, but my love of season two Jim is so strong it overcomes it.
10. 30 Rock: Tracy Jordan Guessed by [info]sninkle. See, I love Liz Lemon long time, but Tracy Jordan is INSANE and also I'm not kind of afraid sometimes that I will grow up to be a way less cool version of him, which lets me enjoy him more from an objective standpoint. Also: Samurai I-Am-Awry. Yes.
11. Jonny Quest: Jonny Guessed by [info]annagail147. I have a type. That type is...Jonny Quest, basically. :(
12. Veronica Mars: Wallace Guessed by [info]phrenk. I LOVE YOU WALLACE I am a big fan of snarky, loyal best friends, and Wallace is one of those, who is also adorable. Yes.
13. Friday Night Lights: Saracen Guessed by [info]phrenk. Not so much in season two, but I love Saracen's season one plotline, getting confident, getting his girl, and still always looking out for his grandma.
14. Phoenix Wright
15. Princess Tutu
16. Card Captor Sakura

A beautiful girl.
I went to the DMV today, and it was very quick, very easy, and everyone was very nice. I was pretty freaked out, to be honest.

I also watched Penelope, which I very much enjoyed. It was self-consciously a fairy tale, and had a lot of nice moments and gestures that I liked. I'd never heard of it, but it's a Beauty and the Beast variation with the girl (Christina Ricci) being the beast. It's got curses and overbearing mothers and I thought it was very well done. Recommended!

eta I...guess Queer Bash is on my birthday this year?? I don't know if I should be excited or kind of scared. But hey, why pick?

In my zen place.
I had Babylon 5 dreams last night. Which was weird. I'm pretty sure I was a Mary Sue in them too, which was extra awesome. I grew up on Babylon 5, but then left for a while, and came back and visited all my friends. Mostly Garibaldi. Because my life was also being threatened. Clearly my subconscious was all "bitch, who cares about these new fandoms. Go back to self-inserting on a space station. That's where you belong."

Thanks, subconscious.

A windy night.
So, it's spring break. I've been watching a lot of random TV shows, reading fic, and generally chilling out after a hectic first half of the semester.

But Chash, you might say, didn't you spend tons of time in the last few weeks watching Jonny Quest and playing video games?

I did! But I was also doing work while I did these things. I multitask like a mofo. It's really probably bad. But true. And I was stressed out. So I am now R-ing and R-ing. And reading and writing Jonny Quest fanfic.

Don't judge me :(

So, I'm pretty ambivalent about the whole graduation process. I'll be glad to be done with school, but at the same time, I am afraid of the real world.

But the graduation ceremony I've been pretty not excited about. It's a ceremony. I imagine it will bore me. Overall, I was angry about its existence.

Except today, graduation speakers were announced. And the baccalaureate speaker is...

LEVAR FUCKING BURTON

Also known as Geordi Fucking LeForge or that...guy from fucking Reading Rainbow.

This is so exciting.

omg.
